On May 21, the "2023 RCEP Regional Development Media Think Tank Forum" was held in Haikou, Hainan with the theme of "Building the World's Largest Free Trade Area". The forum was co-hosted by the Propaganda Department of Hainan Provincial Party Committee, China Daily and China (Hainan) Reform and Development Institute. Representatives from more than 10 countries and international organizations, including China, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos, focused on "RCEP and regional economic integration development", "Accelerating the release of RCEP dividends to promote regional economic growth" and "Building a high level of regional economic cooperation". The seminar focused on the topics of "RCEP and Regional Economic Integration Development", "Accelerating the Release of RCEP Dividends for Regional Economic Growth" and "Building the Largest Free Trade Area at High Level".

  More than a year after the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) came into force, the dividends of promoting regional trade and investment growth and economic recovery have been released. How to implement RCEP with high quality, build the world's largest free trade area, effectively promote regional economic integration towards deeper, and inject more momentum for regional and global trade and investment growth has become an important issue of common concern.

  Weng Shih Jie, Chairman of New Asia Center for Strategic Studies, Malaysia, said that RCEP is essentially an inclusive mega free trade agreement that aims to share economic development dividends, promote open cooperation and achieve common prosperity in the region. It is a hard-won achievement that marks a victory for multilateral cooperation and free trade.

  Luo Siyi, former Director of the Economic and Business Policy Agency in London, UK, and Senior Research Fellow at the Chongyang Institute of Finance, Renmin University of China, said that RCEP's contribution to world economic growth will continue to grow. Thanks to the implementation of RCEP, the role of developing economies in global economic growth will increase significantly.

  Yi Xiaozhun, former deputy director general of the World Trade Organization, believes that RCEP has given a strong impetus to China's system-based opening, further enriched the connotation of China's opening to the outside world, and also promoted economic globalization in the direction of more openness, inclusiveness, inclusiveness, balance and win-win development.

  China (Hainan) Reform and Development Institute President Chi Fulin said, accelerate the construction of China - ASEAN Free Trade Area version 3.0 is an important step to pragmatically promote a high level of openness. A high-level open China will form an important driving force for the construction of China-ASEAN FTA version 3.0.

  Qu Yingpu, President and Editor-in-Chief of China Daily, said that the media and think tanks are the front-runners in promoting the exchange and mutual appreciation of civilizations. The media needs to actively tell the RCEP story, walk hand in hand with all parties and make greater contributions to promote regional exchanges and cooperation.

  Hainan will continue to take the initiative to use and integrate into RCEP, benchmark with high standard international economic and trade rules, and strive to become an important intersection between China and other RCEP markets, said Wang Bin, member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Minister of Propaganda Department.

  Benjamin Benjamin, deputy head of the Thai Embassy in China, said Thailand is willing to further expand and deepen cooperation with Hainan, and looks forward to more cooperation with other Chinese provinces and cities.
